The U.S. is the only country that does not dip its flag to the host country
at the Olympics opening ceremonies. When the U.S. flag-holder was asked to
do so for King Edward VII at the 1908 London games, he supposedly responded, “This flag dips to no earthly king.”

In military use, no more than two flags may be on a single pole.
There is no official guideline for civilian use.

The following is a quote from the Department of Defense website.
“Thank you for your inquiry about the proper placement of the American flag
on the uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces. Army Regulation 670-1, “Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia,” updated most recently September 5, 2003, addresses explicitly the proper and lawful placement of the U.S. flag patch on the Army uniform.

Betsy Ross is widely credited with designing the first American flag, but there
is almost no evidence to support that claim. The only records of Ross’ involvement
came from her own grandson in 1870, when he presented the Historical Society of
Pennsylvania in Philadelphia with affidavits from his own family members as evidence.

If early politicians had their way, you would see a lot less of the American flag.
While the battle over perceived desecration of the flag remains a hot button issue today, some of the first anti-desecration measures had little to do with flag burning or other destructive measures.
