Flag Fact Friday

A High School Assignment

Did you know Robert G. Heft while in high school designed the current 50-star US flag as a school project when Hawaii and Alaska were being discussed as possible states?  The project was done in one weekend after spending 12-1/2 hours arranging the stars.  He received a B minus for the assignment because his teacher said it lacked creativity.  His teacher told him he would receive a higher grade if it was adopted by Congress.  Robert went to work and sent it on to his representative, where it eventually because the nations flag.  He currently averages 150 speaking engagements per year telling his story.  His design for a 51-star flag is already created just in case.
