Army Regulation 670-1, “Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia,” updated most recently September 5, 2003, addresses explicitly the proper and lawful placement of the U.S. flag patch on the Army uniform. Flag Fact Friday! 10/7/16 Friday, October 7, 2016 Betsy Ross is widely credited with designing the first American flag, but there is almost no evidence to support that claim. The only records of Ross’ involvement came from her own grandson in 1870, when he presented the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia with affidavits from his own family members as evidence.
